UCLA Bruins
Rick Neuheisel’s first season in charge of the UCLA Bruins was the program’s second losing season in a row finishing a disappointing eight in the Pac-10. An overtime win over 18th ranked Tennessee seemed a perfect start for the new coach but three consecutive losses followed including a 0-59 demolition at the hands of BYU. UCLA didn’t look convincing at home to Arizona and despite rallying in the fourth quarter against Fresno State, were unable to overturn the deficit, losing 31-36 in the end. In the Conference opener, the Bruins comfortably beat Washington State 28-3 handing their new coach a 6-0 career record against the Cougars. A loss to Oregon was followed by a win against Stanford but UCLA lost four of their next five games and did not make the postseason for the first time since 1999.
