Tennessee Vols
Phillip Fulmer’s 16 year stint as Tennessee Volunteers coach came to an end at the end of last season after Vols posted a 5-7 record with the team lacking in offense. Former Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has been appointed as Fulmer’s replacement and since then the coaching roster has seen some major changes. Dave Clawson’s appointment as offensive coordinator at the start of 2008 led to the demise of Fulmer so it remains to be seen whether the new changes will have a positive effect on the Vols. After the 2008 Outback win against Wisconsin, the Vols been less that convincing and will rely on players like Dan Williams, NFL bound defensive tackle, to support a different defensive philosophy introduced by Monte Kiffin since his appointment as defensive coordinator in Knoxville. With the Vols rebuilding, it’s difficult to see them posing a major threat to the rest of the SEC but a fresh start may be just what Tennessee needed.
